Louis XIV was known as the "Sun King" and is often used as the single best example of absolutism in European History. Read over the Wikipedia entry on Louis XIV and take notes on the major events of his life and how they impacted France and the rest of Europe. After completing your notes, give your opinion on whether Louis was truly "great" or rather "overhyped." Make sure you explain your answer!
Now its time to go on a Virtual Field Trip to Versailles. Before you go, read the Wikipedia article about the site (stopping after the "cost" section) which will help you answer the questions below. See the extent of the grounds by viewing it from space (on Google Earth): on approach. Finally, go to this website and "walk" thru the Grand Tour setting with Mr. Freccia, stopping at each particular room. Note the art and decorations found within its walls. Enjoy!
